Financial Outlook Summary

One of the recurring themes of the Administration is that Hurricane Katrina made a tremendous and deleterious impact upon the University’s financial standing.  This section contains information on the financial status of the University.  What is particularly striking about the financial information is that Administrators at the university have not discussed so much of it with the faculty. The numbers are difficult to track since most of them come from interviews given by Administrators in the media.  Their statements on deficits and revenues fluctuate for no apparent reason from one report to the next.

The Summary Table indicates, to the best of our knowledge, that Loyola University New Orleans may end up with a budget surplus even without Pathways.  Note that the Board of Trustees’ bylaws require that the University budget must be balanced at the end of each fiscal year.  Whether or not revenues will be recovered for 2005-06 is irrelevant since the budget most likely will be balanced by July 31, 2006.  Furthermore, elimination of profitable and highly regarded programs via Pathways may actually result in a budget deficit in the future.

Can anyone say “Pathways, The Sequel?”
